I'm working on a project for school in iBooks Author, and whenever I try to copy and paste something it crashes. It also crashes when I try to type in more than 2 sentences in 'scrolling sidebar' or 'pop-over's.

I see that you're using iBooks Author 2.1.3. Can you update to 2.2 and see if that solves the problem?
I have the same problem, and am using the latest version (2.2) on Macbook Pro, OS Yosemite 10.10.2. It also is taking forever to save the smallest changes. (I'm saving after each one now because it crashes when I attempt 2-3 changes, even minor ones.) I've been using iBooks Author since its inception and have never had this problem before.
Maybe the issues the template you are using?
