It sounds like you updated to iOS 8.2 and now the camera icon in the Messages app is grayed out and you cannot use it as you had before. From what you describe it seems to me that MMS may not be enabled in your Messages settings here:
Send messages with your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
Go to Settings > Messages

Mar 18, 2015 12:41 PM in response to sterling rby ABhiker,I found the answer online and once I did it my camera came back online for "Text messaging", the camera did worked for "imessage". The answer I found was "Reset Network Settings" under General setting. Would have never figured that in out. Thanks for the reply still.
