I need more than 1280x800 resolution

I know the average mac book has a 1280x800 max resolution but for the graphic programs I use I need a higher resolution. I'm new to the mac world and am still getting used to it. I know on pc even on lower end cards you can get programs that will boost the resolution higher. Is there anything like this for mac? I don't need a crazy high 1600 type resolution just one size up like the mac book pro offers with a 1440x990.

Thanks!

Mac Book, Mac OS X (10.4.8), 2ghz 1gig ram 100G

To the best of my knowledge, there is no way to boost the resolution on any display via software. The native resolution on an LCD display is the number of pixels across by the number of pixels down. There simply isn't any way for software to make more pixels than are physically there. This is actually the case for any display... CRT or LCD. You can go lower than the maximum resolution, but not higher.

You would need to go with a MacBook Pro to get a higher resolution... or use an external display.

Maximum display resolution is a function of both the resolution capabilities of the graphics card and the monitor. Neither of these are modifiable on the MacBook. If you need greater resolution you can connect an external monitor capable of higher resolution. The MB graphic card supports up to 1920 x 1200 on external monitors (if supported by the monitor.)

Otherwise, you should have gotten a MacBook Pro. A little prior research before you purchased would have alerted you to these differences and limitations.

Just to simplify, you have two options.

1) Return your macbook and buy a macbook pro.

2) Use an external monitor.

I don't know what you are talking about, but there is no such thing as boosting the resolution of an LCD through software. That would be what we call "physically impossible" 😀. Mac or windows, just the same.

As the above posters have said, do your homework first, mate.
