Can't eject disk - with a twist!

A special award goes out to the expert who can figure this one out.

I'm going to recycle my circa-2005 iMac, so I fished out my old DVDs to zero out the data. But there's a problem, of course.

1. I can't put an old install DVD into the slot, because something is stuck in the CD/DVD slot. I restarted and depressed the eject button, but the disk won't budge. I can't mechanically get at the stuck disk.

2. I thought: why not use Terminal? I looked for Utilities/Terminal - but there's no sign of Terminal anywhere. I did a search and even looked in the Trash, but Terminal isn't there. I can't seem to dislodge the stuck disk that way.

3. Then I thought, why not use an old standard application like Pacificist? Problem is, I need access to the stuck superdrive so I can get Terminal again.

All I want to is get the iMac to spit out a stuck drive. Is there any solution to this?

Thanks!

Good news!

The old iMac didn't have a disk inside, but the mechanism was "frozen" for some reason. I took a long strip of plastic and ran in and out of the superdrive slot; eventually, the drive made that familiar mechanical the usually occurs after ejection.

I'd never heard about how to fix a frozen superdrive (aside from replacing it), but the plastic strip did the trick. But still, thanks for the good advice!
