I'm sorry to hear you are having these issues with Mail in Yosemite on your Mac. Based on the first two issues you described, it sounds like you may have your account configured as a POP account. If that is the case, you may find the information in the following article helpful. You may also want to check with your mail provider to see if they suggest/offer IMAP account configs instead of POP:
