iPhone 5s storage?!

So my phone (iPhone5s) keeps saying I have over 4,000 photos on it, even though I only have around 500. I've synced my phone several times, I've tried restarting it, and nothing works. It just won't recognize that I've taken those photos off my phone. Because of this, I have no space to do anything and I can't get these "4,000+" photos off my phone!! I don't have those photos on my phone but my phone still thinks they're on there! Why? Help me!

iPhone 5s, iOS 8.2

Have you checked the Recently Deleted album in Photos? If it's empty you may have run into a strange bug, where deleted photos don't actually get removed. To check for this follow these rather strange instructions:

  • Go to Settings/General/Date & Time
  • Disable Set Automatically
  • Tap on the current date/time and roll it back about 2 years
  • Tap <General in the upper left
  • Launch the Photos app and go to the Recently Deleted album (even if it says there are 0 photos)
  • Is it full of photos? If so, delete them
  • Go back to Settings/General/Date & Time and turn Set Automatically back on

Thanks to @txforever for discovering this.
