Q: Back To My Mac only works one way on same network
I have an older Macbook Pro (Model 5,5) with a crap battery that I keep plugged in to run some time consuming codes on. My intention with this is to be able to log on to it with Back To My Mac on my newer MacbookPro, set the code up to run on it, and log back off. I know I can do all this though ssh, but I would really like the full functionality of BTMM.
The problem is that I cannot connect to my old MBP (serpentmachine) from my new one. I have gone though all troubleshooting I can find (Port opening, iCloud sign in, sharing preferences, etc.) but I still cannot get it to work. I DO serpentmachine over the network in the Finder sidebar, but it shows as "Kind:PC", and has no option to share screen, only "Connect As...". Going to serpentmachine, I see my new MBP no problem and can share screen in that direction.
Now if I restart serpentmachine, I can occasionally get it to show correctly on my MBP's sidebar and screenshare through BTMM correctly, but that solution is very hit/miss, and impossible to do if I'm not physically around. So my guess is it has something to do with staying on for long periods of time, but that is far beyond my scope of knowledge.
Any ideas or similar experiences?
