To make sure we are on the same page, you are having issues with using Continuity and to be more specific, the Personal Hotspot feature with your IPhone and MacBook Pro. Well when using Personal Hotspot in general does not require you to pair your iPhone directly to your MacBook Pro like you would with your Magic Trackpad. All you need to do is look for your iPhone in the Wi-Fi menu of your Mac and it should pair if you have everything set right.
