Q: Connection time out fix (for me at least).

OK so this isn't a question but I know a lot of people are looking for a fix to their mac not connecting to a network they previously used without issue.

My 2007 iMac running 10.6.8 recently started failing to connect to my home network. All my other devices had no trouble with my BT home hub 4. All Apple products and 5 sonos components Including a 2009 MacBook running 10.7.

I Tried an old router and it worked so I began looking at the router settings of my hub 4. I had to login as admin and look at advanced settings.

The hub4 is dual band. I logged using my MacBook and turned off the security. The iMac was then able to connect. Obviously this isn't ideal but it meant the issue was in the security settings.

The two bands of the router are linked by default. I de-linked them and changed the security type of the 2.4Ghz band.

This has (for now) solved my issue.

Hope it helps  someone else.
