gifting tunes to remote computers

I have a dear friend in another state whose choral and opera music career has been halted due to traumatic brain injury (TBI). He was beaten within an inch of his life. His wife is trying to get help creating playlists of musical pieces that have significance to him on her iPod for music therapy. She doesn't have time to go through his huge collection, select and download pieces through the computer to the iPod. She has put out requests for specific pieces that she thinks would be helpful but so many classical pieces' files are too large to send. I personally don't have the software to compress them, though I wouldn't mind finding an EASY compression program that would to it. I have tried several and they are way too complicated intended for business file sharing.

Is there a way I can gift her pieces I find in iTunes and send them to her iTunes account?

Howdy DynaThor,

I hope your friend is on the road to recovery and I understand music can help. Very thoughtful of you.

When you gift an item in iTunes the recipient gets a gift certificate to redeem and downloads the content. You don't actually send the files but with a decent Internet connection that should be okay.

See the section for "Gift an item on an iOS device" in this article:

When someone is in crisis or is traumatized (the wife witnessed the beating) as this family has been, the process you outlined is far too much to expect anyone in her position to wade through. I sent her iTunes gift cards in the mail.

I also find it unconscionable that Apple, Inc has made no benevolent effort in any area to relieve the suffering of anyone, let alone those with TBI as my friend but with the plethora of Wounded Warriors with the same condition along with PTS (formerly PTSD). They would rather pay taxes on their billions of dollars to the government (because it is so well spent, I assume) than help those who can't get help from anyone but the declining "middle class", who can hardly make a mere pittance to the enormous amount of funds needed just to make life have just a little more quality.

I'm a believer in "you reap what you sow". I was months away from moving from Windows to Mac with a new desktop and laptop. I am no longer considering that move. I have talked to an number of of people recently regarding foundations and non-profits, and they are as disgusted with Apple's philosophy regarding philanthropy.

I realize I am "preaching to the choir" but I assume this is a forum where free speech is condoned.

Thank you for your reply. I can only assume it is accurate, but find it too cumbersome for me, who has all the time in the world, unlike my good friend.
