Q: Chrome download page crashes Macbook Pro mid 2010 15 with Yosemite using Safari and Firefox
I ordered a refurbished mid 2010 Macbook Pro 15 with the 1680x1050 antiglare screen from an online reseller. It shipped with OSX 10.6. I backed up the hard drive and upgraded to OSX Yosemite. After the upgrade, OSX crashes on things like viewing the Chrome download page in Safari and Firefox. The crash happens near the beginning of the animation that starts as the page loads. The crash restarts the computer and it comes back with a grey error screen. I am able to hit any key to continue. I tried reducing the transparency in OSX 10.10, but the problem still manifests.
I restored the computer to OSX 10.6 and the problem does not manifest. It also does not manifest with OSX 10.9.5.
I have not found information on the Internet about this being a common problem with this laptop and OSX version, so I suspect a problem with the video card.
If I view system info under OSX 10.9.5 the card is detected as Nvidia, but under OSX 10.10 it is detected as Intel.
The seller suggested that I contact Apple as he thinks it's a software problem. What do you all think?
