Q: Why is AirPlay so unreliable?

I have an Apple TV (with the latest update) and an iPhone (with iOS 8.2) and using AirPlay to play music from the iPhone to Apple TV.

When I play an album, there's a glitch on the start of every single track - it plays the first half second, then stops and starts again.

When an album finishes, and I select another, nothing happens when I press play. I have to pause/play/pause/play/pause/play and then the music will actually start. This is not quite the smooth Apple experience..!

@digitalheaven - I don't think you're going to find any support help on Apple's support communities as they continue to send you to other places in the support community with no end solution. This has been my findings going through the support communities when dealing with the Apple TV.

Here's what they should do (what I'm doing for you right now)...

    1. what kind of router are you running your Apple networked devices through? -- Many routers may not have the processor and/or wireless signal capacity to handle the demands of AirPlay. Even a 100$ Netgear N750 (my current/previous router) couldn't handle it, so I had to connect via ethernet the Apple TV and then stream the stuff to it... even then still with problems sometimes. -- Music & Movies had never been an issue streaming from an iOS device, but streaming movies from a hard-drive connected via USB3 to a Mid-2011 Retina MBP through HomeSharing was where I had the problems. Anyways... enough of that. I'd suggest the above router if you're wanting to have about 90% functionality... you'll still have problems as the Apple TV is the best broken solution to your media serving needs As to the described above issues... no answers in the community as of now.

I even had a recent issue where purchased movies wouldn't play... they would just sit there at the loading/description screen for forever and a day... I eventually had to Restore the whole Apple TV only to move past that issue, thankfully, and run into another issue where now I can't even sign back out of my iTunes Apple ID account Any support from the community? Not currently...
