Distorted graphics in iPhoto 9.4.3

I created a card. If I turn off my Mac or log out of my user account when cards projects tab is selected in the main window then on logging in and launching iPhoto the next time I see this:

To restore the normal state I have to click another tab then return to the cards. What is this all about? Defected graphic card? I notice this only in iPhoto and my Mac is not eligible for the recent repair campaign launched by Apple.

Mac OS X (10.7.5), MacBook Pro 15.4 mid-2012

Create a new card and check to see if the same problem occurs. Does it?

As a Test:

Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'

Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

Hi, Terence, thanks for your reply. I haven't tested your solution as of yet but I definitely will; I post back when I do it but I'd like to note that this trouble occurs not on a regular basis so you can never now on what login or launch session you'll face it. It happens chaotically, no system here.
