Q: Deleting Capture Files

I am finished with my project and am running low on HD space.

How do I delete the media (capture) files from FCE 4?

I have tried to delete the captured clips themselves but that yields no gain in space.

Thanks

You must empty the trash after putting the files in it.

Deleting the clips inside the FCE project has no effect on the files on your hard drive.

To delete the clip files & render files from your hard drive (and free up space) you have to manually delete the files via the Finder.  Navigate to the following folders and delete the contents therein:

    • <youruserfolder>/Documents/Final Cut Express Documents/Capture Scratch
    • <youruserfolder>/Documents/Final Cut Express Documents/Render Files

IMPORTANT NOTE: If you have any reason to want to retain your captured clips, archive them somewhere before deleting them from your hard drive.  Once they're gone, they're gone forever.  Render files don't matter, you can always re-create them by re-rendering your project.  And, OBTW as Ian said you also have to empty the Trash.
