Internet Issues

I seem to be having trouble connecting to the internet with a wired connection. Safari keeps giving me an error saying that "I'm not connected to the internet". However, when I connect the same cable into a different computer I'm able to connect to the internet with no problem. I'm trying to figure out whether or not my ethernet port is somehow blocked, or whether or I need to have my iMac serviced. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to do here?
