Help! I accidentally dragged the Macintosh HD icon onto my desktop. Where do I put it back and how?
MacBook Pro, OS X Yosemite (10.10.2)
Finder > Preferences > General... Uncheck Hard disks and it won't show up on your desktop anymore.
Normally the HDD icon is i n the upper right hand corner. Where did you drag it from and where did you drag it to? If you do not want it on your desk top, follow pmiles instructions. If you do want it, drag it back and perform Finder>View>Clean Up

Thanks, Ogelthorpe, I figured it out. I discovered the icon was an alias, and that the actual Macintosh HD was where it belonged. I dragged the alias to the trash and that was that. Whew!
