Mar 23, 2015 5:02 AM in response to pswong3by vanhalen26,I have the same problem. I did a restore as new and the music I added self deleted again in a few hours. Not sure if the problem is the latest iTunes or ios 8.2 as I upgraded both recently.

Mar 23, 2015 7:03 AM in response to vanhalen26by Lawrence Finch,It is neither of those. It is a problem specifically with your device or your computer. Restore iOS on your phone using iTunes. Set it up as New. The restore your backup and sync after restoring the backup.
If this does not resolve the problem restore and set up as New again. Do not restore your backup. Then sync your music to the phone. If this works (it should), then manually reinstall your apps and other content.

Mar 23, 2015 7:29 AM in response to pswong3by Lawrence Finch,So you set up as New. Connected the device to your computer. Clicked on it in iTunes. Unchecked "Manually manage music and videos." Clicked on Music in the left column. Checked "Sync Music". Selected music to put on your phone. Clicked "Sync." And this did not put music on your phone?

Exclamation point near one of your music folders might pop up if you have recently changed the location of the music folder iTunes is trying to scan.

Mar 23, 2015 7:58 AM in response to Lawrence Finchby pswong3,Re: Lawrence
Music (purchased and non-purchased) got put on the phone after the restore / set up as new, and I could actually play them from the phone right after I sync.
But when I disconnect and reconnect the phone back to the iMac, the non-purchased songs disappeared. When I look at the Music on the iPhone from iTunes (under devices), I can still see the songs. But when I click to play any one of them under devices on iTunes, a "!" sign appear. The same songs were still playable from the iTunes library on the machine.
I noticed some users have reported issues with the iOS 8 music library with duplicates of purchased songs, so I will be doing some experiments by remove dups on that later today and see if it works.

The music library on iTunes played fine since I have not moved them.
But when I browse the list on my device under iTunes, I can see the songs but when I click to play, a "!" appears.

Mar 23, 2015 8:04 AM in response to pswong3by Lawrence Finch,Are you connecting the phone to the same computer every time? An iPhone can only sync to one computer. If you change computers the phone's media will be erased, except for iTunes music.

Of course, have been using the same iMac for every upgrade (iOS4 -> 8 and iPhone 3Gs -> 6).
I have also been using "Managed my Music Manually" and iTunes preference set to prevent auto sync.

Mar 23, 2015 8:36 AM in response to pswong3by drivebackhome,I've been having this exact issue since the 8.1.3. I have not updated to 8.2 and i'm battling this same issue. I know that i will have to update before i will get any support, but it seems like some sort of bug that's been going on for a while and isn't being addressed.

Mar 23, 2015 9:35 AM in response to mariohp89by AmishCake,This procedure has fixed this bug for many users according to feedback I have gotten:
Un-sync all your music to remove it from the device, then restart (hold down the home button along with the sleep/wake button until you see the apple, then let go). Now re-sync your music.

Mar 23, 2015 10:38 AM in response to drivebackhomeby vanhalen26,
I just got off the phone with Apple, first level support suggested it was a conflict between the music app and another one of my apps based on running a diagnostic test on my phone. Her solution was I restore as new, add my music, then wait and see if I have issues. If I don't have an issue, I could then add another app, and wait a few more hours. She suggested doing this and adding all my apps back one by one. I told her this wouldn't work as it would take me weeks.
I was then escalated to second level support, and they authorized an exchange - but I'm hesitant to do that as I think the issue is software based.
First level support might be right that one of my apps is conflicting with IOS 8.2, but I just don't have the time or desire to test how they suggested. I'm hoping that this gets fixed in the next couple IOS updates - as there were no problems widely reported like this until IOS 8.2 launched. If an IOS update does not fix this, I'll try it with a new phone - but would rather avoid as it's so time consuming to set up as new, and I don't want to spend another 3-4 hours on this.

Mar 23, 2015 10:51 AM in response to vanhalen26by drivebackhome,i just spent the last 2 hours trying AmishCake's "fix" As i was adding new music on it quit working. this is a huge BUG and i'd love for it to be fixed. I might have to call apple support to launch a complaint also. I'm tired of this crap. it's interesting how it only remembers like 6 of my purchased albums too.

Mar 23, 2015 11:04 AM in response to drivebackhomeby pswong3,Here is what I've tried this morning....
0) Remove any duplicates in my iTunes library for both purchased and non-purchased songs
1) Set Manage my Music Manually for the phone. Backup
2) Restore phone
3) "Copy" the non-purchased music onto the iPhone first
4) Sync and then release the phone from iTunes
The songs copied without any issues, rebooted, and plugged the phone into and out of iMac a couple of times. Songs still there.
Played some music with the iPhone for a 2-3 hours, everything seems fine
5) Then add all the purchased songs
So far so good, fingers crossed.
