Cannot Connect My Macbook 2011 to TV with Thunderbolt

I am trying to connect my Macbook Pro to my TV through my thunderbolt. For some reason it says that my thunderbolt is inactive and I keep receiving this message, "None of the member interfaces are connected. Click Advanced for details." I then go to my advanced details and see that my Thunderbolt 1 is Inactive. What do I do?
