I have a big problem: how do I get rid of a persistent keylogger?

I did a reinstall of OS Snow Leopard and that totally solved my keylogger problem:

1. My computer was no longer slow, it didn't keep making constant noises as if there was a process in the background when I wasn't using my computer

2. All websites loaded super quickly and there wasn't this horrible 5 second lag when I typed something or a skip in videos when I watched something...

but then,,,,,2 days later....

as I was in gmail, MY SCREEN WENT TOTALLY WHITE

and I had to restart my computer...and now THIS ANNOYING KEYLOGGER problem has returned.

How do I get rid of the a*hole who is targeting my computer? I don't have time to reinstall Snow Leopard again and again. How can I get rid of this annoying keylogger that is making my computer SUPER SLOW?

iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.8), 2.66 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo 2

I have to note here that when I launch Activity Monitor- for some reason this computer has loads of inactive processes running ALL THE TIME, when my other computers do not have this problem.

Anything from Google are massive resource hogs. Get rid of Chrome. Use Firefox if you don't care for Safari.

You have a lot of garbage installed in the attempt to "protect" yourself. This is the Mac OS, not Windows. You've created more problems than help with Cyberghost and the Anchor hotspot shield. The latter is known to be much better at gathering info on you so they can sell it to advertisers than protecting you from anything. Get rid of both of them. They are likely the reason for most of the extra activity you see.

Since it's difficult to tell what you may still have installed, or incorrectly (or not fully) uninstalled, I would suggest this:

1) Backup your personal data to another drive.

2) Boot to your Snow Leopard DVD, erase the drive and reinstall the OS. Apply all available updates.

3) Reinstall only truly useful third party software. Do not reinstall any garbage software such as anti-virus, supposed cleaning or performance enhancing apps such as MacKeeper, CleanMyMac or other such junk.

4) Manually restore your personal data. DO NOT restore any type of backup from Time Machine. You'll just end up dragging garbage back in.

5) Increase the RAM to a minimum of 4 GB. 8 would be better.

If after that you see the same type of video issue, it's hardware related.

I only use this computer for browsing the internet? Is GChrome responsible for all that data?!

Also, as I mentioned my computer was working fine until TODAY, when my screen blanked WHITE and I had to restart when the problems cropped up again- are you saying that this is SOLELY related to RAM?

Before today my computer was working normally without any lag. I didn't do anything unusual.

More than likely, yes. Chrome is a serious resource pig. It also updates itself without bothering to notify you of the fact that it's doing so.

If Safari won't cut it for you, then try firefox. It's a pig too, but much less so than Chrome.
