AirPlay not connecting iPhone 5S to Apple TV 2

I have an iPhone 5S with iOS 8.2 and an AppleTV 2 with software version 7.1, but when I bring up the Control Center on the iPhone, tap on AirPlay > AppleTV with mirroring > Done, the screen freezes for a few seconds and then Control Center goes away, but AirPlay isn't connected and there's no change to the AppleTV. If I try to turn on AirPlay without mirroring, it connects, but any music I play won't come out of the TV and the AppleTV's home screen shows no signs that music is being streamed. I've tried rebooting the iPhone, the AppleTV, and my router, but nothing changes. Anyone have any idea what the problem is?

It sounds like your iPhone 5s is not connecting to your Apple TV over AirPlay. Resetting all the devices is a good troubleshooting step, and next I'd try ruling out interference as a cause of the issue.

You can use these steps from the Support article Get help using AirPlay and AirPlay Mirroring on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch:

If your playback is interrupted, or you have network lag

You might notice these issues if you have a weak Wi-Fi signal or interference from a different device, like a microwave or baby monitor. Try these steps:

Make sure that you're using the recommended settings for your Wi-Fi router.

Move or turn off other devices that might cause interference.

Try connecting your Apple TV directly to the router using an Ethernet cable instead of Wi-Fi.

Some apps might stop AirPlay when you lock your device or put your device to sleep.
