Q: My Ipad 2 is disabled and unable to be restored.

I am able to connect to itunes, and follow the recovery mode steps, but half way through i receive a message that "the computer could not connect with the ipad because it is locked with a password, I must enter the password on the device in order to continue" but I do not have assess to my ipad, how is this possible? I have tried several times, please advise on my next steps.
