Q: how to download apps such as Facebook to my iphone 3GS with ios 6.1.6, while the app store asks to update to 7.0- which in turn is not possible......

I am using Iphone 3GS. Recently I have reset the factory seetings. My IOS versionis 6.1.6, which is the utmost available update to my version of iphone. While i was trying to download some of the apps such as Facebook etc., the app store is asking me to update my IOS to 7.0 or later in order to download these apps, which in turn is not possible.. so please tell me how to download this apps on my 3GS iphone.....

If you synched your iPhone with iTunes you can resynch your apps using iTunes of your computer.

Hello Sberman,
Initially I am thanking you for your response towards my problem. As I have already said in the question my Iphone 3GS version is updated to Version 6.1.6 & there is no further update available to my iphone. Now, please tell me how to find the compatible version of the required apps in my app store.....

Yes, it might have helped me but recently 2 days back my hard disk has crashed which has got that synched data.....

You either :

Buy a new phone that is able to run the latest versions of the software

or

Ask the developers to provide a version that is compatible with the phone. It is up to the developers to do this, and not Apple. Apple does not decide what version the developers offer.

As the article I attached says:

Open the App Store on your iPhone
Go to the "Purchased" screen
Find the app and choose "Download". You'll see a message telling you if a compatible version is available. Tap confirm to install this version.
