puzzling since the second contact is sitting only a few feet from me with iPhone and iPad both switched on, next to my iPhone and iPad, yet we can't communicate.

Thanks,

    Hello, SaltSeaShark.

Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.

I understand that a contact does not allow FaceTime calls.  I would double check their device to make sure that iMessage and FaceTime are signed into and enabled.

    1. Go to Settings > FaceTime and make sure FaceTime is turned on.
      • If you see "Waiting for Activation," turn FaceTime off and then on again. Learn what to do if you can't activate FaceTime.
      • If you don't see the FaceTime setting, make sure that Camera and FaceTime aren't off in Settings > General > Restrictions.
      • Make sure that you have the correct phone number or email address listed.

If you can't make or receive FaceTime calls

    Cheers,

    Jason H.
