Q: iPhoto - shared PhotoStream folder - folder is empty, yet my other devices display pictures/videos

Hi

I launch iPhoto, navigate to 'Web' then 'PhotoStream' folder, the folder is present but it is empty (showing '0'), yet my other devices pictures/videos are displayed.

Please would you confirm what I need to do to get this synced up again?  I think it relates to iCloud but not completely sure what to do.  I rebooted the MAC but this did not help.

Thank you.

MacBook Pro (15-inch 2.53 GHz), OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5), null

Disable Photo Stream in the System/iCloud preference pane

    Preview002.png

and in iPhoto's Photo Stream preference pane.

Reboot and reenable both respectively. That should jump start Photo Stream.

It is just for this particular stream which was sent to me on Thursday.

I tried the reboot/reenable suggestion to no avail.   I have also tried deleted the stream then subscribed again but did not work either.

If it is only one particular Shared stream, the owner of the stream may have deleted the photos.

Is it a shared stream where subscribers can post? Then try to add a photo to that stream.

It is possible to see the content of the shared folder on my other devices e.g.. iPhone, iPad.

How did you try to delete the stream?

The  local copies of your shared photo streams are stored on your Mac in your user library in the folder

    ~/Library/Application Support/iLifeAssetManagement/assets/sub-shared/

If this folder has problem with the permissions or access control lists, the photo stream agent may not be able to download new items.

Check, if any photos at all have been downloaded to this folder.

Your user library may still be hidden, as is the default in Yosemite. To open the hidden User Library:

    • Click somewhere on the empty Desktop to bring the Finder forward.
    • Use the Finder's "Go" menu.
    • Click "Go", then hold down the options key, until you are seeing "Library" in the drop down menu appear and click it.

In the Finder window that will open navigate to the folder Application Support, then iLifeAssetManagement, then assets, then sub-shared.

Thank you for this information.  I have navigated to the folder and it is not hidden. There are folders present, and I note that within the folders there are  photos and it is possible to open them.

Do you perhaps have another recommendation to fix this please?

Try to copy the photos from ~/Library/Application Support/iLifeAssetManagement/assets/sub-shared/   to a folder on your Desktop as a backup, then delete this folder and restart your Mac. This may help, if a corrupted photo in the Photo Stream is blocking the processing.

Thank you - I have tried what you have suggested above, but I'm not getting any photos in at all.  Do you have any further help for me please?

I unsubscribed to everything that was there.  Then unsubscribed to the new photo stream.  Then tried to find the folder but -

the folder called ~/Library/Application Support/iLifeAssetManagement/assets/sub-shared is now longer present.

I recreated the folder there but it is still empty.

Hi, Unsure if you had seen my recent reply  - I carried out the suggestion, but it has not fixed the issue.  Do you perhaps have another suggestion please?  Your assistance would be greatly appreciated.

    I have no further ideas.

Is you profile signature still correct?  "MacBook Pro (15-inch 2.53 GHz), OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5), null"?

Then you may not be able to see photos in that particular stream, even if you are seeing them on iOS8 devices. The newer Shared albums require "a Mac with OS X Mavericks v10.9 or later and iPhoto 9.5 or Aperture 3.5"

I'm having a problem finding the Profile signature, can you please let me know where it is located?

I'm using iPhoto 11 v 9.4.3 - do you mean that I need to have OS X Mavericks in order to view photo streams now, on my Mac?  If you could clarify this, it would be very helpful. I don't understand why all of a sudden I'm no longer able to view streams in my Mac - is it because the person sending it has upgraded their systems.  As far as I'm aware they are just sending it from their iPhone
