I am trying to transfer events and/or photos from iPhoto to My Passport Ultra. Previously I've had no trouble doing this, but now I get error code -50. When I drag the event or photo to the passport a blue line appears around the field, and I get the error code.

What format is the MyPassPort Ultra and how is it connected to your Mac?

That's an I/O error code. Launch Disk Utility and repair the EHD. How is the EHD formatted?
What are you transferring, just image files or the iPhoto Library package. And how are you transferring?
I got this, my second MyPassPort, about two months ago. I formatted it for Mac. It is connected via USB. I transferred quite a lot of photos and films without any problem.
EHD formatted for Mac. I'm transferring image files and movies. Transferring by click and drag which has worked just fine up until today. I'll try the repair. Thanks.

As a test see if you can make a duplicate copy of the folder of files you want to copy to the EHD. If you get the same error message it means there's a damaged file that can be read and copied.
Just tried the repair and got this: Unable to unmount volume for repair. Hmmmm.
I made a copy of a photo file and tried dragging to EHD. Same message. Now what?
Doesn't seem to matter if file is from desktop or iPhoto.

The hard drive is failing or has failed. If you can backup it up ASAP and start looking for a replacement.
