Q: iCloud.com Photos stuck "Preparing your library…" for more than two weeks!

Hi,

iCloud Photos work well on my iPad, iPhone and OS X, but the web-based version of Photos has been stuck "Preparing your library…" for more than two weeks. I have more than 75GB of pictures in my account, including some raw files. How can I get it to work?

Thank you,

Max

My iCloud Photos are working GREAT on all my iDevices and on iCloud Photos site. However, I'm having this same issue with my wife's iCloud account that I'm setting up for her. It's stuck "Preparing" on iCloud.com for the last week or two. Her phone and her laptop are doing great though. Any solutions other than contacting Apple Support?

I have the exact same problem with the iCloud.com iCloud Photos page. It's been "Preparing" for the last four days.

I'm experiencing the same problem on all my windows PCs, though iCloud photo library works great on my iPad and iPhone. Doesn't Apple give any answers?!

Same exact issue.  I enabled iCloud Photo Library (Beta) on my iPhone.  I noticed that if I wanted to include a picture in a SMS or iMessage it would take 7-10 seconds to access photos.  I have 38K photos and 1,200 videos in my Photo album stored in iCloud.  Once I did a little trouble shooting, I narrowed it down to iCloud Photo Beta.  My wife's 6+ is having the same issue.  However, after turning it off on my 6 and restoring it, my photo app on my iPhone still shows grey boxes for each photo.  The only way to truly fix this is to wipe the phone and set it up as a new iPhone and don't touch the iCloud Photo Beta.  Photo access at this point isn't worth erasing my text message history.  I use my phone for work and there are a lot of work related conversations on there.

    Same here...

I hope my photos are still on iCloud... If I loose them, I'm lost...

If you can't be bothered to backup your photos you may lose them, but you made the choice not to backup

I am also having this problem.  I have an iPhone 5c and an iPad Air, both use iCloud to store photos and as I have a Windows PC, I go into icloud.com and take off the photos I wish to keep and back up from there.   I am particular about backing up my photos and icloud.com is perfect to get them on my PC to be backed up.  Is there any solution for this or will Apple produce a fix please?

Same problem here. I used the Photos app in 10.3.3 to upload my large photo library (175GB, about 121,000 photos, 150 videos) to the iCloud Photo Library. These appear to have synced properly to the app across my personal and work laptops. After two weeks, my iCloud Photos web page still tells me it's "Preparing your library..." And with Optimize iPhone Storage selected, the Photos app on my iPhone running iOS 8.2 has been stuck at downloading 114,000 images for a week. This after wiping the entire phone once and reinstalling everything. I've got tens of thousands of white boxes in the app. When I select one, the progress wheel suggests it's downloading until it reaches 1/4, and then it stops. Wish I could download the iOS 8.3 beta to see if that addresses the issue.

Apple's willingness to lease us a terabyte of storage suggested a suitably large limit to the size of our media libraries. I'm hoping that will be the case, but if not, it would be helpful to know what the actual limit is. Any suggestions from Apple or others who've found solutions welcome!

My situation is nearly identical to yours. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a partial fix with iOS 8.3 as well. Photos on iCloud.com has never worked for me, but prior to a couple of weeks ago, Photos.app on 10.3.3 and iOS Photos synced just fine.

Same problem here.  I've been paying for the 200GB plan for a couple of months, just to be ready to move my 75K iPhoto library to iCloud.  Syncing is working great between my iOS devices and was working great to iCloud.com. I don't have the time or inclination to be a beta tester for the Yosemite Photos app, but I'll gladly use it when it's ready.  But now, when I hit my iCloud Photos app, I get "Preparing your library..." and have for a couple of weeks.  It will regularly pop-up a failure dialog and "Notify Apple" type of thing, which I do....but nothing has changed.  Need a little help here Apple...I'm anxious to see this work and am ready...  Anyone who's gotten theirs to work?

Mine is the same. I've turned iCloud photo library on and off, my iPhone re-uploaded all the pictures and it's still stuck on 'preparing'.

Same here. Small photo library, 200 GB iCloud subscription. I'm paying for something that doesn't work.

I too am at 200GB with a relatively small library of 50GB.  Been "Preparing..." for a few weeks now.  Patience is getting thinner at this point.
