Q: When going into iTunes Store to purchase, if I click on a song and play it first, the icon does not revert back to the dollar amount to purchase the song. The "play" option remains and I can never purchase the song. Why is this happening?

I have an older iPod but it is updated and current. I am trying to download some songs from the iTunes store. To be sure I am purchasing the correct song, I like to sometimes click on the song and play the song first. After the song starts to play, or fully finishes playing as it does not matter how long I play the song, the purchase/play icon on the right side of the song lists for the artist never changes back to the dollar amount, from the "play" mode, so I can purchase the song. This is the same no matter how often I close out iTunes and go back to that song a day later, a week later……still says "play" and not $1.29 so I can purchase. Does anyone have a suggestion? How do I get the dollar amount back so I can purchase the song?

    Hello beverlyfromspring,

Based on your post it seems you are unable to purchase songs on the iTunes Store. Have you attempted to update iTunes to its most current version? The following article provides the steps for updating iTunes on Mac and Windows:

Get the latest version of iTunes - Apple Support

If you have iTunes installed on your computer, follow the directions below to update to the latest version of iTunes.

If you don't have iTunes installed on your computer, download it here.

    Mac

    1. Open iTunes.
    2. From the menu bar at the top of your computer screen, choose iTunes > Check for Updates.
    3. Follow the prompts to install the latest version.
If you are not prompted to install a new version of iTunes, you already have the latest version your operating system can support. See the System Requirements on the iTunes download page.

    Windows

    1. Open iTunes.
    2. If the menu bar isn't showing, hold down the Control and B keys to open it. Learn more about the iTunes for Windows menu bar
    3. From the menu bar, choose Help > Check for Updates.
    4. Follow the prompts to install the latest version.
If you are not prompted to install a new version of iTunes, you already have the latest version your operating system can support. See the System Requirements on the iTunes download page.
