Issues using Apple Pay at Tim Hortons

I Work at Tim Hortons and have tried to use apple pay multiple times, using different cards and none have worked. A few co-workers have tried and had the same result. When you hit "credit" on the register it activates the card terminal that does have tap to pay-which does work with my debit card. However, when you try to use Apple pay it either gets declined or says " card reafter error"

goolge wallet used to work but now does the same thing?

iPhone 6, iOS 8.2

I do not see Tim Horton's in the list of vendors accepting Apple Pay --- yet.

True, but in theory every where that has a tap to pay card reader should work right? This is why Apple Pay works on vending machines, even though they are not officially supported.

I surely do not think so.

Why would Apple bother to list vendors accepting Apple Pay if that were the case?

Because these are stores where there is guaranteed to be card readers with Tap to Pay and employees that are trained. Not every Tim Hortons has a Tap to Pay card reader, nor does every vending machine which is why they're not listed.
