I lost sound on youtube on my mac mini, Yosemite OS X, internal sound ok, iTunes works ok. I tried removing camera and mic settings locations in system preferences. No change. Can I restart Safari? How do I do that?

First try another browser and see if it works. If it does then perhaps you have some extension in Safari causing the issue.

Thanks for your assistance. I loaded Opera and youtube volume is fine. Is there some way I can restart Safari? I don't understand your other comment about some extension in Safari causing the problem. Can you explain how to fix it? Thanks, again!
Go to Safari>Preferences>Extensions and disable all of them to start with. Then if that solves the problem look enable them one at a time to find the ofending one(s).
Thanks, Illaass; I checked Preferences, Extensions; no extensions listed. I turned off extensions completely and tried youtube again, still no sound. Turned extensions back on, no change. Opera still ok. Is there a way to restart or reload safari? I'm trying to keep things very simple.
Well, I thought all was well. I lost all sound from external source, youtube, on Safari as well as Opera. I also lost sound from iTunes. I have the pc sounds, but not from the external speakers or earphones. I'm thinking it's an exacerbation of the original problem, not a hardware issue. Earphones and ext speakers test ok, though.
Any suggestions?
Try resetting the SMC and NVRAM

Try repairing the startup disk via Disk Utility
Illaass; Thanks. I tried both resets. One of them worked; however, during the resetting process the volume changed to zero and it took a minute to realize it.
