Attempting to install OS 10.10 on a 2012 Macbook Pro now running 10.9.

I am attempting to install OS 10.10 on a 2012 Macbook Pro now running 10.9. the program will not allow me to select the Mac HD and flashes 'this disk is used for time machine backups." I can get no further. Any recommendations?
