    Hello, turtlefisher.

Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.

I understand that you are not able to accept a invitation to join Family Sharing.  Here are the steps on how to accept an invitation.

    Join a family group

You can accept or decline an invitation to join a family from you iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Mac.

    • In iOS 8, go to Settings > iCloud > Invitations.
    • In OS X Yosemite, choose Apple menu > System Preferences > iCloud > Manage Family.
    • If the invitation is sent to your email address, you can also respond right from your email.

To accept an invitation, follow the onscreen instructions. Here's what you'll be asked to do when you join:

    • Confirm your Apple ID and password.
    • Choose if you want to share your content and which iTunes Store account you want to share from.
    • Choose if you want to share your location. If you agree, your location can be displayed on family members’ devices in Find My Friends and Messages, and the location of your shared devices will also appear on family members’ devices in Find My iPhone.

If you can't accept the invitation, see if someone else joined a family with your Apple ID or is sharing purchased content from your Apple ID. Remember, you can only join one family at a time, and you can only switch to a different family group once per year.

Start or join a family group using Family Sharing

You can also have the organizer resend the invitation via the steps below.

OS X Yosemite: Manage the family you organized

    Cheers,

    Jason H.

    Dear Jason,

thank you for trying to help me, but I must once more clarify the situation :

as organizor of my familysharing I try to invite my sister (PC) from my Mac (Yosemite),

but she can't accept the invitation, because the answering-buttons ('decline / accept')

are missing and strange messages appear on her screen -

-- " To subscribe you must sign in at iCloud from:

-an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch with iOS 8 or

           -a Mac mit iOSX 10.10 "

-- " This is a valid Apple-ID. But not for the iCloud account. "

or can it be, that such an invitation isn't acceptebale from a PC at all ?

Perhaps you can give me some hints on how she can respond to my invitation,

because she wrote me, that she had done all the downloads and installations

for 'iTunes Windows' "by the book" and I can't help her further ...

(Excuse my poor translations from German to English)

Thanks for your work at a fascinating idea

    Hi turtlefisher,

Thanks for responding with more information. There are two bits of information you described in your response that we can address and hopefully help shed some further light on your situation.

First, you mention that your sister’s Apple ID is for iTunes but hasn’t been used with iCloud. To use Family Sharing, she will need to set up her Apple ID for use with iCloud as well. Please use the attached article below for instructions on how to complete this process.

Set up your Apple ID for iCloud and iTunes - Apple Support

The next concern we need to address is how she can join your group because she doesn’t have the option to join in the email she receives on her Windows computer. As Jason pointed out in the article he attached, to join a family group, the only supported ways you can accept or decline an invitation is from an iPhone, iPad, iPod, or Mac. Once she sets up her Apple ID for iCloud, she will then be able to join the family group as described in the attached article.

Start or join a family group using Family Sharing - Apple Support

You can accept or decline an invitation to join a family from you iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Mac.

    • In iOS 8, go to Settings > iCloud > Invitations.

    Have a great day,

    Joe

    Hallo

    joe_7399,

thank you very much for your help !

My sister went through your advices step by step and she succeeded in getting

her iCloud to function properly (South of Germany).

Now I ‘ve got her on my radar-screen (North of Germany) and we started

to explore the whole iCloud - business !

So thanks again and have a nice day,
