ICloud storage. What counts?

I am getting message that my ICloud storage is almost full. On checking the details I find that movies purchased over Itunes are using most of this space. I was under the impression that media purchased from apple would not count towards this storage

"Your purchased music, apps, books, TV shows, and My Photo Stream don't count against your 5 GB of free storage."
