Q: Sony camera not detected anymore after latest security update.

Camera is detected by iPhoto, but does not mount on the desktop screen. Photos can not be downloaded. Used to work fine until the last security update.

Can you access the material with Image Capture (in the Applications Folder)? If so, get them off the card and then reformat the card with the camera.

I don't have Image Capture. But I found another way: in the camera menu I found "USB connections". It was set to "MTP". I assume it must have been running with this setting on the computer before the security update, because I never changed that setting. I didn't even know it exists. Now I set it to "automatic", and that did the trick. Have no idea what technically happened though, but problem solved so far. Thanks for your idea anyway!

Image capture is in your applications folder

Glad you found the correct setting on your camera -

Zapristi! Yeah, you're right. Had to google it though, since it comes with a *completely* different name in my German system: "Digitale Bilder". It's actually pretty cool. I may use it for downloading the images from my camera in the future instead of iPhoto. Thanks!

If you use iPhoto then iphoto is best - if you prefer not to use iPhoto then Image Capture is the way to go
