screen looks very white - washed out....

Good morning.

My G4 Powerbook A1138 (1.67 mHz) screen looks very white - washed out.

Some things seem to disappear into the whiteness.

It started suddenly last week.

My cat often walks over the keyboard, and often invents novel keystroke combinations. This MAYBE the cause.

I have been unable to darken it to display proper color rendition using either the display preference option or the light-dark buttons on the keyboard.

Can anybody help?

Thanks for your time.

Yes the cat could be to blame. Fur can get into the keyboard. Cleaning it can be a real pain, and you have to be careful as many solvents can act as insulators if they are not designed for it. Using a keyboard vacuum is a better idea. There is a brightness key that can help once you are sure the fur is out. The keys that adjust the brightness have flower like icons.

Kitty cats and kids can somehow deploy 'universal access' special keyboard combinations

that invoke varying effects, often to include black-on-white reverse or chalkboard effects.

These controls can be checked into, and one of them may allow greater contrast or bright

to dim control. Some are to help allow corrective or to access computer function.

Later versions of OS X have a re-named version of universal access:

Keyboard artifacts and hidden archives of debris can certainly add issues to create a

set of unusual problems; with a spare known-good USB keyboard you could test this.
