If you're running Mac OS X 10.6 or newer, yes. Run the Software Update pane of System Preferences, or get a download code for Lion or Mountain Lion from the online Apple Store, or download Yosemite from the Mac App Store as desired/needed.

No You can´t. I suggest check what Imac you have and then see the latest OS you can install. Then you could buy the version. First imac (for example) has the OS 8.1 or 8.5 pre-installed and you can upgrade it to OSX 10.3.9 Phanter.

Your best way to update your OS would be to either buy an install disk off an aftermarket website such as eBay or "alternatively obtain" the software and burn it to a disk. Either way a disk will be involved.
