Mavericks Install Problem!

I have a early 2008 Mac pro with Lion 10.7.5 installed. I have tried to update to Mavericks 10.9. from a usb drive. The installer files are on the Lion drive, but it did not update to Mavericks!! Did i miss something? Any help is much appreciated!

I used terminal, creativeinstallmedia and this command: sudo /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ Mavericks.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia --volume /Volumes/Untitled --applicationpath /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ Mavericks.app --nointeraction

This was on a usb flash drive. It created an install on this disk. It was installed on the Lion start up drive.

Yes, I backed up to 2 different drives.
