You'll then have access to the Mac App Store and can upgrade to Yosemite if your computer meets the minimum specs OS X Mavericks system requirements - Apple Support
If you can run Mavericks you can run Yosemite. Regardless of what Apple states you will need at least 4gb of ram and more is better.
Before you do anything make a complete backup in case either something goes wrong or things don't work as you expected.
