Solid State Drive or Solid State Hybrid Drive?

I have a Mac Mini late 2012, with 1TB running Yosemite and 16GB of ram and I'm thinking of getting either a SSD or SSHD. Looking for some opinions about either one. The research I've done so far doesn't seem to find much of a difference in terms of speed between the two. Of course the price is a big factor and I also write and record a lot of music so that would be a factor too.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks.

The Hybrid drive is much faster than a standard hard rive

That will depend on the definiton of "standard." If standard is the typical 5400 rpm drive that ships with a MacMini, Yes. If it's a 5400 rpm Fusion drive setup, then, No.

It's never clear when you have to guess about the OP's specific configuration, a "1 TB what?"

I replaced a 7200RPM Seagate Momentus (7200.4 version) drive with a 7200RPM Seagate Momentus XT Hybrid, the drives are mechanically identical other than the 8GB of SSD fitted to the XT. and it is a lot faster than the non hybrid version. I have not had the time to test against a fusion drive but would expect that with 128GB of SSD rather than 8GB the fusion drive would be faster.

Looks like I'll have to go with the SSD in spite of the price. What companies would you recommend?

How would I know what rpm my drive is? I looked in About This Mac and System Report has all the specs, but I don't see the rpm speed unless I'm not understanding what I see. It say processor speed 2.3 GHz. Is that it?

What video would you recommend in terms of installing the SSD in my Mac Mini?

I usually get a notice in my email that I have responses, but not this time. Is there something I can put a check mark to, to let me know when I have responses?

Thanks for all the help.

Although pricey, the Samsung 850 Pro series provides the

best performance and has a 10 year warranty.

There are less expensive drives with somewhat lower performance

but they will typically only have a 3 year warranty.

All SSDs have a limited number of write cycles. With the 10 year warranty,

you would surely be covered for the use over the life span of your Mini.

Something to consider.
