How do I unmuddle my voice over?

I recorded a voice-over (for a rock band's upcoming concert) and -- even though I lowered the "pots" in the music bed beneath my voice-over -- the mix still ended up losing vocal clarity and crispness and is actually hard to hear. It seems to be adjusted to the maximum volume and -- short of bringing the music already imported on another track WAY DOWN further -- is there anything I can do to make my vocals crisper, more audible? I am a beginner to Garage Band and would like to use it as I move into professional voice-over work. The microphone is a decent Blue Snowball.

I'm guessing there is a whole bunch I'm missing in my execution of it so far....

Please enlighten?
