QT 1080x1920 MOV choppy playback on old iMac OS X 10.6.8

I transferred some QuickTime movies taken with my ipad air 2 (1080x1920, H.264, AAC) to my iMac that is running snow leopard (10.6.8). The playback of these HD movies is choppy, every 5 seconds, like it is skipping some frames. My iMac is a 2006-ish 2 GHz Intel Core Duo w/2 GB on 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM. The video is choppy in QT 10.0 and QT Player 7.6.6 which are both loaded on this computer. Anyone know how to fix this issue or this thing just too old now? All old low definition videos play just fine.

Hi,

I'd say the thing is indeed just a little too old now. 😟

Core Duo, an 8 year old graphics card & only 2gb is definitely pushing the limits..... Given they're almost giving it away, you may want to upgrade to 4gb and see if that helps any - no guarantees of course, but the G/F's old iMac (similar vintage) was definitely a lot 'snappier' with 4gb.

Good luck,

Ian
