My apple remote (the one that came with the device) won't connect. I've replaced the battery; I've unplugged both the box and my router and reconnected everything, and nothing happens.

My apple remote (that came with the device) won't connect. I've replaced the battery; I've unplugged everything, including the router/wifi and reconnected, and still nothing. Not even a blinking light. I've tried holding various combinations of "buttons" on the remote and still nothing. I am stumped. I've only had it for 2 years and haven't even used it that much. Is it just dead? Thanks for any ideas.
