how to not permanently delete files from trash

My trash only delets with one choice "Secure empty trash" can I turn this off?

Mac Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.8), Safari 5.1.9

I'm not quite sure what you are trying to do here.


If you click on finder the 'drop down menu' gives you the option to set trash to Empty (basic trash action) or Secure Empty (what you appear to have). Simply choose which one.


But you question asks "How to not permanently delete files from trash" which suggests you may need them back. So if you have any doubts, do not delete them in the first place, create a general folder just for such items and hide them away in there.


If you have a space problem, buy an inexpensive flash drive and store such matter in that. You can then delete it from your machine once saved in the flash drive.
