Q: Not able to install Windows 7 on SSD

Hi to all!

I'm trying to install Windows 7 on SSD with BootCamp.

I already have an SSD(240GB) with Mavericks placed in the SuperDrive bay. What I'm trying to do is to install Windows 7 on a second SSD(128GB) placed where the original HDD was before.

I have tried 2 solutions:

1 - I have tried to install Windows from the 240GB SSD to the 128 GB but it didn't work.

2 - I have installed Yosemite on 128GB SSD and then I tried to install Windows from there to the same SSD, but it didn't work either.

What can I do to solve this problem?

MacBook Pro (13-inch Mid 2012), OS X Mavericks (10.9.5), null

Macs with built-in Optical drives will not allow Windows installation with it being in place. Remove the 240G SSD from Optibay, reinstall your Optical drive back. Install Windows on the main bay 128G SSD. Remove the Optical drive and put the 240G SSD back in the Optibay.

Thank you a lot. In fact I was thinking to do in the way you explained.

Question: after installed Windows on 128GB(I think I must install Yosemite and install Windows through BootCamp), I will be able to remove the partition of Yosemite and having Windows working anyway? I'm thinking to remove the Yosemite partition from the 128GB SSD with Mavericks or Yosemite mounted on the 240GB SSD.

    Is this possible?

    This is one method.

    1. Remove 240G SSD from Optibay.

    2. Re-install Optical drive.

    3. Boot from 240G SSD using an external enclosure/SATA-to-USB connector. You can also boot from an external flash drive as mentioned in OS X: Installing OS X on an external volume - Apple Support.

    4. Run BCA and format the 128G for Windows completely.

    5. Install Windows.

    6. Remove the Optical drive and install the 240G SSD and test.

Thank you again. As soon as possible I will try this method and I'll tell you if it worked or not.

    Thank you very much!

Hi Loner T! I want to thank you for your suggestions. You really helped me out. It worked. Now I have an SSD with Yosemite, and an other SSD with Windows.
The only thing that I had to do in addition is to install Yosemite on the 128 GB SSD and after that I was able to install BootCamp and consequently Windows.

So, on the 128GB SSD I have Yosemite(30GB) and Windows(90GB).

If I delete the Yosemite part, do you think Windows with BootCamp will work anyway?

Unless you really need the 30GB, I suggest leaving it as is. This may work in your favor in the long term, if you decide to remove 240G SSD and replace it with a larger SSD in the future.

Ok. Indeed I don't need those 30 GB.

    Thank you a lot, again!
