Q: macbook pro 13" starts up but then shuts down

My macbook pro 13" 2011 starts up but then shuts down- after the gray screen with apple showing and gear turning. I have tried repairing the disc with Disk Utility and it says drive appears to be working after it made repairs. However the problem persists. Any help appreciated.

Mac Pro, Mac OS X (10.5.6)
