Why is AppleMobileDeviceService.exe running when I do not use an Apple mobile device

My machine went slow and I found that this was due to AppleMobileDeviceService.exe

I have never used any Apple mobile device, so I do not know why it is there or what it is doing. I do not use any Apple software regularly, so I tried to block all Apple startup items. There are a few startup items with cryptic names that I am wary of blocking, so maybe one of them is starting this process. I suppose it is also possible that it has been launched by an add-on to one of my browsers.

If I cannot find a way of stopping it, I may have to remove all Apple software, but would prefer not to.

Hi Mt9mt8,

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!

I understand that you see Apple Mobile Device Service (AMDS) running on your Windows computer and are wondering what it is. AMDS is part of the iTunes installation on your Windows computer and helps to connect your iOS devices (iPhone, iPad, iPod touch) to iTunes. If you would like to stop this service, please refer to the attached article for instructions on how to do so. Please note that this article explains how to restart the service if it is not working correctly. If you would like to simply stop the service, please stop at that step and do not restart the service.
