What is this...a trim for something?

That is the new addition to LPX from 10.1 onwards... called Audio Interface Remote Controls that allows you to directly control your Audio Interface settings from within LPX itself... like the Mic Pre Gain as an example. The range of settings available will depend on which audio interface you have.

Does it actually control the hardware or is it a software trim level?

Hardware...

Like a remote control for the controls on your Audio Interface.. available both in LPX itself and via Logic Remote on your iPad... Cool feature for those audio interfaces that support it.. Unfortunately at this time Motu have not implemented it for the Utralites so I cannot test it myself 😟

Apple made the code available to developer to implement that feature for their hardware. Apparently it is supposed to be easy to add on.

If your audio interface manufacturer hasn't done it yet, just call them and bug them.
