New iPhone: Photostream not downloading

Hello folks. I purchased a new iPhone 6 today and transferred my settings to it from a back up on iCloud. I've also synced it with my laptop to transfer my music onto the new phone. All has gone smoothly apart from the fact that it's only downloaded the most recent Photostream photos to my phone which is a very small number compared to the total. If I go to my iPad, they're all on there and they're also all on my laptop.

In settings on my phone, when I go to iCloud then photos, My Photostream is activated. The settings are the same as my iPad.

So, I'm wondering what I'm missing that's causing my Photostream not to appear on my phone properly. If anyone could offer any pointers, I'd be most grateful. Thanks in anticipation. Glynn.

iPhone 6, iOS 8.2

Hello thebiggfella,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

If you're seeing a different number of photos after enabling PhotoStream on your new iPhone compared to your other devices, then you are likely just seeing what is actually in your Photostream. Your other devices are showing what is currently in Photostream, and the previously cached photos.

I see different photos in the Recently Added album or My Photo Stream album on each of my devices.

Your device will keep up to 1000 photos, even if they're older than 30 days. Photos older than 30 days are removed from the iCloud server, so your devices might not have the same photos, depending on when you enabled My Photo Stream. Due to storage limitations, your Apple TV might display only your most recent photos.

Use these steps if you want to have the most current photos from My Photo Stream on each of your devices and delete the older photos:

  1. If there are any photos in the Recently Added album (or the My Photo Stream album in iOS 7) that you want to keep, save them to your device, then back up your photos and other data using iCloud or iTunes.
  2. Turn My Photo Stream off in Settings > iCloud > Photos.
  3. Confirm that you want to Delete Photos.
  4. Turn My Photo Stream back on. iCloud will automatically push your stored photos to your device.
  5. Repeat these steps for each device.
