I switched carriers before my new carrier was able to get my old carrier to unlock my iphone. Now I'm sort of in limbo because I dont have an account with my old carrier and therefore they dont have a code to unlock me and I cant use the phone with my new carrier. Any ideas how I can unlock the device? I'm going on a week without a phone.

Since the old carrier is holding the lock on your iPhone, they are the only ones that can unlock it. You are going to have to talk to them to find a solution.
The only way to unlock a phone for use n another carrier is to have it unlocked by the current carrier. You will have to contact the carrier that the phone is locked to in order to get it unlocked. That may mean setting up some type of an account with them since you say that they don't have any code in their system.
