I am trying to regain space on an iPad 2 by removing photos from the photo album.
There are 9000 images in the folders that I sync to iTunes which take up 11GB of space. If I deselect all of these folders for syncing iTunes still shows 11GB of space used for photos.
How am I able to remove all the photos in iTunes so that I can regain space?

In order to remove the synced photos, you'll need to uncheck "Sync Photos," then proceed with another sync.

Yes I am aware of that and have only sycned back to the iPad the albums I want and they contain just 1250 photos.
However the space used according to iTunes is still 11Gb, in other words although I have removed 8000+ photos from the sync the storage space has not reduced.
