Q: opting out of group texts

Is there a way to opt out of group texts altogether? And if not, is there somewhere we can suggest this to the programmers for a future iOS update?

There is perhaps nothing more annoying that *that person* that feels the need to interject unnecessary dialogue to what could otherwise be a decent group discussion. Except for maybe that one person who doesn't have iMessage and costs you an international text with every response to the group...

I'd love it if my name wouldn't be an option to add to a text that already had another name in the To: field

    Hey ljwil,

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.

From what I gather, you would like to know how to disable group messaging on your iPhone because of potential service charges. You can disable MMS group messaging from Settings, as shown in the article linked below.

Send a group message with your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

    Using group messaging with MMS

To use group messaging with MMS, you need a plan from your carrier that allows sending MMS. Carrier messaging rates may apply.

Check with your wireless carrier to see how many people you can include in a group message with MMS.

You can turn off MMS group messaging in Settings > Messages > Group Messaging. You can still send and receive group iMessages.

    Cheers,
